Robertson, K.
Large, 160 pages, photo illustrations, hard back. **A very detailed study of Bulleid's revolutionary Leader class. It had two six-wheel power steam bogies, sleeve valves, chain drive and cabs at either end and resembled a modern diesel locomotive. Unsurprisingly there were teething troubles and the decision was taken not to proceed with the class. The author has brought to light new material indicating this may have had more to do with BR's Modernisation than with the apparent unworkability of Bulleid's remarkable design.
