185. The Railway Magazine 1897-1990
New in the market
A set of volumes 1-136 in very fine condition. The longest running railway monthly in the world under the same title. Various publishers, now Mortons Media after many years in the ownership of IPC. Format large octavo, medium octavo from the 1940s to the 1960s, then quarto and currently large quarto since 1985. Contains between 300 pages and 1200 pages, amounting to more than 100,000 pages of railway information. With countless photo illustrations, maps, diagrams, fine colour lithographs in the early volumes, extensive use of colour in more recent years. This run was assembled some 20 years ago for a Bedfordshire collector, many of the volumes being sourced from our own stock. The first five volumes are from the publisher's ornately decorated green cloth. All the rest are in modern Chew Valley style dark red cloth, closely matching the publisher's own later style. Condition of both the bindings and the contents is near-fine to very fine. Some volumes retain some or all of the period advertising. Price: £3900

186. The Railway Magazine 1950-2006
New in the market
A set of volumes 96 to 152 in very fine condition. A good long run of 56 modern volumes of the senior British railway monthly periodical. Format octavo to 1963, quarto to 1981, large quarto thereafter. Between 700 and 1200 pages per issue, with good articles of current and historical interest, extensive notes and news, countless photos, maps, diagrams. All uniformly bound in dark red and gilt, 1973-81 in publisher's cloth, rest in closely matching Chew Valley bindings. Price: £1400.

153. The Railway Magazine 1965-1976
An attractive little run of the much-loved Railway Magazine covering the transitional years of steam to modern motive power in Britain. Quarto format between 650 and 750 pages per year. Articles of current and historical interest, news, queries, letters, profusely illustrated in mainly b/w. Publisher's indexes throughout. Twelve volumes in all, bound in the publisher's dark red cloth with titles in gilt on spines and upper boards. All in very good clean condition and at a competitive price. The set: £240
